Why I Stopped Caring About Grades
I don’t because I remember how the pressure of getting “good grades” drove me mad. It made me forget what life’s really about. This isn’t a knock on teachers, I love and respect them, but I learned so much more on my own than in school.
The Pressure of School and My Own Journey
I didn’t finish high school. My parents divorced at the start of year 12, and in the first week, I was moving homes, just living with my mum. I hardly went to school that final year, and honestly, I don’t regret it. My greatest achievement was not conforming to being the obedient student. I’d wear the sports uniform instead of the formal one, leave early, and barely show up. It was about questioning the system before it was too late.
My biggest wins were designing our year 12 jumper, captaining the soccer team, and scoring the winning goal in our interschool game. I remember being kind, helping where I could, but I was always moving between groups, searching for something more than “school.”
What I Learned Outside the Classroom
Straight after high school, I completed a personal training course, became certified, and worked in gyms until I worked for myself. Then I went to India for a yoga teacher training course. After various other jobs, I finally said, ‘Forget it — I’m going to work for myself doing what I love.’
Over time, I built a career that supports my family — using skills I learned through self-discipline, not grades. They’re still fresh, but they support my family and let us live the life we do on an island.
It wasn’t always like this. We had nothing – literally zero to hero. What changed it all was the social network. Any business owner knows how crucial social network growth is. To thrive, we must use AI as a tool.
